3 block cipher
шифр, в котором исходное сообщение (plaintext) разбивается на блоки фиксированной длины и преобразуется в шифротекст поблочно, то есть каждый блок шифруется независимо от других блоков. Это преобразование, именуемое раундом (round), для повышения стойкости шифра повторяется несколько раз. Открытый и шифрованный текст имеют один и тот же размер. Обычный размер блока (block size) 64 или 128 бит. Наиболее широко распространены шифры замены и шифры перестановки. Шифр алфавитной замены в простейшем случае представляет собой замещение одной буквы на другую в соответствии со списком замены, именуемым ключом.
